Avegant Glyph AG101 (2013)

Avegant Glyph AG101 (2013)

Presentation: It does have to be said the Avegant Glyph comes very nicely presented with fully branded boxes and packaging. When it comes to presentation it certainly gives off that feel of a premium product with thick padded foam and dust bags covering everything, it leaves you with a nice unboxing experience… it’s just a shame the user experience isn’t like that.

Avegant Glyph AG101 (2013)

Description: While the Avegant Glyph does fit into the virtual reality headset genre It has more in common with video glasses than an Oculus right. With mobile being the key word here, it is a bit of a transformer. It can be both headphones (a fairly decent high-end set) as well as a portable movie theatre.

I can’t see the Avegant Glyph threatening the Oculus or Morpheus, but I can see that it would be used by people that like their media on the go. From using it to listen to music, then flipping the headset down to become a private cinema screen. While not as immersive as the Rift it can offer something halfway.

Avegant Glyph AG101 (2013)

Review: It doesn’t matter what way you look at it the Avegant Glyph fails in almost every direction. It’s too big and heavy to be used as a pair of video glasses, it doesn’t have enough tech to be properly called a VR headset and it is too poor quality to be a good pair of earphones! They might have sold this as a “VR” headset, but apart from on-board tracking for 360 videos it had nothing and all the content had to be done via an HTML cable. Put simply the Avegant Glyph AG101 tried to be too many things at once and failed to be good at any of them.
