While IllumiRoom was nothing more than a concept one can’t help but draw comparisons to the Immersis VR system! Using a Xbox Kinect it projects videogame visualizations to enhance the traditional living room entertainment experience. Blurring the lines between on-screen content and the environment, it is right on the edge of what you might call augmented / virtual reality.
I can’t help but wonder if the Immersis only wanted to beat Xbox to IllumiRoom VR because the 2 are very much the same. But who cares about concepts and ideas, the real winner is the one that releases it to the public first. Illumiroom is now all but dead, but small parts of the idea live on through the HoloLens idea. The tech for this just isn’t as good as it needs to be which sadly means this is nothing more than a dream. But the Immersis VR might just offer the same and release it before Microsoft knows what hit them!
