Intro: The official Video app from Oculus is your own movie theater in VR! Watch Facebook 360 videos, Twitch, Vimeo, and your own movie files in a completely new and immersive way. You can choose from multiple VR theater environments including in a home theater, on a phone in the forest, and even the surface of the moon.
Review: You start off in what looks like a movie premiere sort of setting with a menu of the different kinds of videos you can watch. From trending 360° videos on Facebook to big Twitch stars, Vimeo videos short videos (both 360° and normal) as well as being able to play your own. It is that last feature that will make most people use this app more than once.
You get to play your own videos with various virtual screen environment. You have a Home Theater, Cinema Theater, Ant Theater (love this one the most), a Moon Theater and an all black void. The last one consists of just the screen, nothing else around to distract you. Being able to watch your own videos or ones you have downloaded in a VR cinema all on your own is a great feel and somehow feels posh and exclusive.
Verdict: I think most people will be generally surprised just how much time most people spend using this app. With so much to see and do it’s like a one-stop-shop for all your VR video needs. But it is the VR cinemas that really stand out and make this a truly worthwhile app. With great variety and amazing graphics you really do get a whole cinema to yourself. I do wish there was a way to watch it with friends (like other apps do) but for now, it’s still a very handy app indeed.
