Overall Packaging Presentation: This is one of the very few headsets that comes very well presented. With a nice, plastic handle to carry the box and a sleek looking black box with writing and images all over it. Inside of that, the headset is in its own plastic tray and the rest of the accessories and instructions are in a separate box. While the box did arrive in the office looking a little worse for wear, the things inside of it remained intact and undamaged.

Whats in the box…

  • Cleaning Wipe

  • Bluetooth Controller

First Impressions: The first time you lift it out of the box you instantly notice how heavy it is and indeed it is one of the heaviest mobile VR headsets available. It also feels a little cheap with a basic, plastic feel. But once you start inspecting a little more you start to realise that this is no ordinary headset. This headset is heavy because it has a fan built inside of the headset which explains the weight and while it does at first look like a cheap plastic headset, you soon start to see how well it is been made and designed. Then on even deeper inspection you discover the design effort and craftsmanship that has gone into it.

Features Review: This headset ticks most the usual boxes. Independent pupil distance adjustment as well as independent focus adjustment via the screw lenses. It has a really good quality 3-point head strap, air flow face padding and is does have to be said that the lenses do give you a pretty good FOV and very clear view. But it is that handy fan that makes this headset stand out. Not only does it cool your phone down, but it also defogs the lenses (provided you turn it on before you insert your smartphone. If only it has a screen touch button, it would be perfect!

Final Verdict: The PlayGlass Plus is one of the most expensive headsets on the market these days and that will put a lot of people off. But this is not a headset for those just starting on the path of Mobile VR, this is a headset for people that know what they are doing and want the very best experience they can. Many people might point to the lack of a screen touch button, but you do get a free Bluetooth controller to counteract it.

For those of us (like myself) who suffer from the lenses fogging up all the time because our bodies run slightly hotter than the room we are in, this is perfect. And indeed, it will keep the phone cooler for longer while watching movies on it and it really is comfortable enough to enable you to wear it for long periods of time. While it is not perfect it sits just to side of the world’s best mobile VR headset and looks down on the rest of them. This is a headset that is deliberately expensive because it knows there is a market for itself. So not for first timers, but for us more knowledgeable mobile VR fans it’s the perfect choice.
