Overall Packaging Presentation: It’s black, sexy and slick. I would expect no less than perfection from a Samsung product and that is what you get. It got all the information you need, its shop ready and it looks fantastic. Opening the outer box the headset and other items are held in a plastic tray keeping them safe from any bumps and knocks during transit. No complaints at all with regards to presentation.

Whats in the box…

“Yes, the Gear VR just got better…”

Please note: Box weight, size and contents might not represent your own product as sometimes different sellers use their own packaging and often include extra items like controllers, wipes, cloths or other promotional materials.

First Impressions: Getting it out of the box it looks great. Its large body and soft face padding gives it a high premium look and feel that 99.9% of all other mobile VR headsets will never get close to. This is had some deep thought gone into it and it shows. While a little heavier than the original Gear VR (2015 Edition) it also looks tidier and cleaner than it.

Features Review: When it comes to features the Samsung Gear VR (2017 Edition) has no more or no less than the original Samsung Gear VR 2015 Consumer version. Sadly no pupil adjustment and no working screen touch button for simple Google Cardboard apps. OK, so you could argue that it wasn’t designed to be used with Google Cardboard apps, but it would have been a nice feature to add.

Final Verdict: When it comes to mobile VR at the end of the day the Gear VR is the best experience you can have and I would put it far above the Google Daydream. But sadly it’s not perfect. Sure, it was always only going to work with compatible Samsung phones, but where are the basic features like a pupil adjustment? OK, so it’s pretty close to being perfect, but I wouldn’t suggest updating from a 2015 model to this one anytime soon as there is not a lot of apps that support the new controller yet and even then you can always simply buy one of them without splashing out on the headset. If you don’t have a Gear VR headset and are thinking of getting one, go for this one every time. Yes, the Gear VR just got better, but there is still room for improvement.
