Box Width: 12 cm

Overall Packaging Presentation: While not the strongest of boxes it does come with quite a lot of information about the headset and a nice picture of it on the top. While not perfectly shop friendly it is still nice to see Shinecon make a bit of an effort to make their products more consumer friendly. Opening the box the headset fills the inside of it meaning no room for any impact damage resistance, but it seemed to be unharmed or scratched in any way. Apart from that, it was just held in a dust-free bag for transport.

Whats in the box…

  • Headset
  • Microfiber Cloth
  • Instruction Booklet
  • VR Content Guide
  • USB to Micro USB Charger Cable
  • Shinecon Bluetooth Controller
  • 3-Point Headstrap

First Impressions: I can’t help but notice how much it looks like the Xiaomi VR Headset. The same body, the same materials the same everything. But it also has some additional features that the Xiaomi VR didn’t have, but we will get onto those later. The headset itself feels nice and light and looks pretty good. While pretty much the same as the Xiaomi VR, it still manages to feel and look more stylish.

Features Review: When it comes to features Shinecon shows Xiaomi how to do it right. While it doesn’t have a screen touch button it does have an independently adjustable pupil distance and adjustable focus distance (not independent). While that does mean most people should be OK with this headset, you can at least squeeze in a pair of glasses if you need to anyway.

Final Verdict: I have to applaud Shinecon for taking a pretty crappy headset design and turning it into something much better. Now that is not me telling you to rush out and buy it, its just me saying this is a less crappy version of the Xiaomi VR Headset. The problem with the design of this and the original Xiaomi VR is that it isn’t made for anyone with a curved face. It’s just too flat and very uncomfortable dispite Shinecon adding the extra face padding. They’ve done a good job with this headset design, but sadly it just wasn’t good enough. Still, if it was a choice between this and the original Xiaomi VR Headset, I would choose the VR Shinecon SG-Y003 every time.
