Review: It’s been 2 years since Rock Band 4 come out on the PS4 and to be honest the equipment has not bene used a lot since it’s launched. But now Rock Band VR is dragging it kicking and screaming onto the stage for one last gig. Sadly there are no drums with Rock Band VR, but you do get to use a guitar. By also popping your Oculus Touch motion controller into the end via a special little cradle that came with them you now have a full motion tracked guitar in VR.

When you start off you do go through a load of tutorials explaining how to get a good score and all the crazy moves you can pull off, especially with the whammy bar. Even though the tutorial you will get to play a few gigs with a small crowd and it feels amazing. The audio, the visuals all work together to make you feel like you really are at a gig performing. It’s got loads of tracks, classic game mode, campaign mode, and even some leaderboards for a bit of competition.

To be honest the list of problems we had setting this up almost made us give up getting it to work. But we kept going and in the end, after blood sweat and tears we finally got it all to work.

I tell you this hand on heart, it might not have the most realistic of graphics, but it felt so real I nearly did a stage dive into nothingness! It’s simply stunning and was so deeply immersive that it was like nothing I had ever experienced before. Sure we all sucked at it, but all of us agreed how amazing it was. This is one of the best VR experiences you can have and one that every VR fan should try and experience at least once even if it’s just a demonstration somewhere. Palmer would be very proud indeed.
