VR Chess Original (Oculus Rift)
Intro: Love chess? Love great graphics? Want to play in a lavishly detailed environment and show off what your graphics card is capable of?
Review: There are quite a few chess games for VR already in the Oculus store and some have pretty amazing arrays of features. But VR Chess Original doesn’t go down that route. In fact, it doesn’t have any features/options at all. You can reset the board, make your move, revert a move or get a suggested move. But that is it! No colours, no scenery. Just you in a very nice looking room with a chess set!
Oddly this is the first Oculus store game I have come across that requires you to play with a mouse. It doesn’t work with any other controller which I did find a little weird. But sat at a desk playing wasn’t all that bad.
Verdict: If you don’t want any guff while playing a game of chess this is the game for you. It’s chess in its purest form. Just you, an AI opponent and a few basic options. If all you want is a game of chess with no distractions, download it and give it a chance. But if you want a chess game with more options, take a look elsewhere.
