“…relatively cheap and affordable and made it look like a premium product.”

Please note: Box weight, size and contents might not represent your own product as sometimes different sellers use their own packaging and often include extra items like controllers, wipes, cloths or other promotional materials.

Box Weight: 419 g
Box Height: 10 cm
Box Width: 17 cm
Box Length: 23 cm

Overall Packaging Presentation: While clearly aimed at the Chinees market, the plain white box with a few images on it looks pretty good. No exactly shop ready, but much better presented than many of Xiaomi’s headsets. Opening the box, the headset is rested in a cardboard frame giving it a little more protection. But other than that there are no other signs of protection.

Whats in the box…

  • Headset
  • Instruction Booklet

First Impressions: Holding in my hands for the first time it feels like a lightweight headset and well balanced. With its nylon cloth covering it also feel good to hold and in classic Xiaomi style, they have taken something that is relatively cheap and affordable and made it look like a premium product. I just hope that it is a premium product in other aspects than just looks.

Features Review: And sadly this is where things start of fall apart for the Xiaomi PLAY2 3D VR. With no pupil or focus adjustment, a lot of people are instantly going to be excluded from using this headset. To be honest, it’s only redeeming feature is that it has a screen touch button. So not an impressive list of features, but hopefully it will redeem itself in terms of experience.

Final Verdict: While I wouldn’t say I hate this headset in any way it could have been a lot better. The lack of viewing adjustment features is what really kills this headset which is a shame. To be honest, it feels great to hold and looks pretty good. Even the viewing experience isn’t horrible.

But it is all so…meh! Xiaomi has got a name for themselves for taking high-cost, premium products and making them as cheap as possible. So what you often end up with is a product that often delivers 80% of the experience you get with a full price item at only 50% of the cost of it. But when it comes to VR headsets they seem to be making it up as they go along! Sure, this is supposed to be a cheap version of the Google Daydream, but it is more a nightmare.
