CINEVEO – VR Cinema (Steam VR)
Intro: CINEVEO – Virtual Reality Cinema is a popular VR Cinema app for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Android Cardboard. It lets users simulate their own movie theater in virtual reality, with an unprecedented level of detail, realism and sense of immersion. Grab some popcorn, it’s movie time!
With CINEVEO you can watch your 2D & 3D video content (AVI, MP4, MOV, WMV & MKV), as well as streaming video content (YouTube, etc.), on a huge silver screen in six different ultra-detailed and beautifully designed virtual reality cinema environments, such as a 1960s Drive-In Theater, a 4D Movie Theater, a Space Station, The Ocean, a Haunted Valley and The Void.
CINEVEO takes VR Cinema to the next level with powerful features such as multiplayer audience and integrated chat room, watching streaming video content together with other users, integrated web browser, movie subtitle support, dynamic lighting effects, customizable cinema screen, using an external webcam as window to the outside world and much more!
Review: Most people might not know CINEVEO – VR Cinema from the Google Play store, but it was widely regarded as one of the very best virtual cinema apps available. Well, now it is in the Steam VR store and you can run it on whatever headset you happen to have, including the OSVR. So what do you get with this app? You get 4 different virtual cinemas: Home Theather, Cinema, Boat Show and the Void. It’s a pretty good range and you are sure to find one you are happy with.
Once you have chosen your cinema you can play a 2D or 3D video from your own computer, select a 2D or 3D Youtube film and even steam something from Plex if you have it installed (Plex organizes all of your video, music, and photo collections, and gives you instant access to them on all of your devices). With so many different options most people should be able to stream the content they want.
Verdict: I wouldn’t say CINEVEO – VR Cinema is as good as the Oculus Video app, but to be fair it is very good indeed. The boat show cinema is particularly good. Navigation is also pretty each and not even from the word go did I have any problems working out how to navigate the menus. Sure, there isn’t a lot of choice in virtual cinemas, but what there is looks pretty good. You can tell a lot of work and effort has gone into making it look great and be as easy to use as possible. If you need a virtual cinema app you can do far worse than download this one.
