Description: Empire Soldiers VR is an app containing two films that pay tribute to the forgotten contribution of Caribbean and South Asian Soldiers in World War 1. Hear the captivating stories of the battlefield and share the emotional experience of the return home. As the journey continues to the present day, focus turns to the changes of the last 100 years, and the impact of migration on the world today. Empire Soldiers was originally developed as a Virtual Reality exhibition, touring throughout the UK to mark the centenary of the end of World War 1. Empire Soldiers VR forms part of a planned series of short VR films made to remember the forgotten contributions of soldiers from across the former British Empire.

Review: This app was once only viewable to people visiting the Lightbox Gallery in Leicester, UK. But now it is available for anyone to watch and maybe learn from. Put short, this is a non-interactive app that tells the story of soldiers from South Asia who fought for Britain during the WW1. The two stories are well animated, passionately narrated and great for educational use. This is 20 minutes of powerful VR storytelling, but it won’t be for everyone. But at least it is free so you can just give it a go!
