IDEA B (Oculus Rift)
Intro: IDEA B is a 7 track virtual reality music album recorded and engineered exclusively for VR. Each song on the album has its own real-time navigable scene. Move freely through mountains, oceans and plains while experiencing elements of the album that were recorded specifically for 3D positional audio. (i.e. you may hear the lead guitar via a bird as it flies over your head)
Review: Gone are the days when musicians can make their fortune by being played once on the radio. These days bands and solo musicians are always looking for new and exciting ways to introduce their music to people’s ears and that is where IDEA B comes into it. This is a music album recorded and engineered exclusively for VR. But this is not just a music video in VR, this is an interactive music video in VR! In fact, that is selling short what this really is.
Each song (7 in total) has a VR environment to explore while you listen to the track you have chosen. But as you move about freely over the virtual worlds that are full of life and other things going on, there is also 3D positional audio effects that turn your own exploring into what I can only call a music video! Yes, what I am trying to say is you seem to make your own music video as you explore, each video and things you see (and hear) in it will be different every time you play a track again.
Verdict: This really is one of those things that you need to experience yourself. Even if the music is not up to your tastes, the style of what they have done with this app will earn your respect. Truly a unique take on the music album release and one that is sure to bring many others to the world of VR. Well done to Walkie Entertainment for showing me something I never thought I would in VR.
