Pimax 5K XR (2019)

Pimax 5K PLUS (2018)

Pimax 5K PLUS (2018)

Presentation: Much like the original 8K headset, the 5K’s box isn’t up to much at all, but it is at least looking like a finished product. With a plastic tray for the headset to sit in and a nice branded outer box, the unboxing experience isn’t exactly amazing given the premium price tag, but it is better than the original 8K headsets.

Pimax 5K PLUS (2018)

Description: The Pimax 5K PLUS is based on similar hardware to the Pimax 8K, but features a lower resolution, at 2560×1440 displays per eye instead of 4K. Since this resolution is accepted as input, the headset eliminates the need for upscaling. Early previews of the devices noted that the 5K PLUS featured a sharper image, while the 8K had a significantly reduced screen-door effect. Launched alongside the 8K, the 5K PLUS units began shipping in large numbers sooner; as of February 2019, a majority of backers had received their headsets, while leaving hundreds of Kickstarter backers waiting for their 8K unit.

Pimax 5K PLUS (2018)

Review: Much like the original 8K headset, the 5K’s box isn’t up to much at all, but it is at least looking like a finished product. With a plastic tray for the headset to sit in and a nice branded outer box, the unboxing experience isn’t exactly amazing given the premium price tag, but it is better than the original 8K headsets. But compared to the HTV Vive and Oculus Rift this headset looks more like a developers edition of it rather than a finished product. I personally wouldn’t recommend this headset to anyone other than an avid VR enthusiast who is happy to tinker with it to make the headset as good as it can be.
