Description: ProtoTanks VR is based on ancient technology rediscovered in the Tigris and Euphrates river valleys, just a few short years from now. Through the ancient texts discovered, a primordial signal containing the answer to all of life’s conflicts, was discovered whirling around in our own Earth’s electromagnetic field. Once analyzed, this signal gave us our first true virtual arena in which to resolve conflicts without loss of life.

Since this discovery, civilization no longer settles their differences through human interaction. Set on a virtual battlefield, you prove your worthiness and innocence by piloting a virtual ProtoTank through the trials of Galla. Should you fail, your digital soul is whisked away to the underworld leaving your organic self a mere shell of your former being, destined to serve out your remaining years plugged in as a servant to the ancient digital gods.

Review: Prototanks VR is a great looking game that has all the right things needed to make it a classic. But for me personally, it was practically unplayable. Maybe it’s because I am a rubbish tank driver, or maybe it’s because the game is so unforgiving, whatever the reason I couldn’t make it past the first tutorial level! While I could be wrong, the biggest problem is the lack of a constant ammo. Everything runs out and everything needs to collect. That might sound all well and good, but when the enemies don’t start in their original spawn location, they can often just stay where you respawn and then it’s game over!

Movement wise this is a game best played with a simple Gamepad, forget trying to use the touch controllers, but as with all VR tank games, it can be very nauseating if you suffer from motion sickness. While I had ammo and didn’t get swamped I was enjoying the game, but every time the same problems prevented me from finishing even the first level. Small changes like player and enemy respawn locations and slowly recharging ammo will really turn this game around. But until those changes are made I couldn’t recommend getting it.
