Description: The story picks up exactly where it left off at the end of Psychonauts (2005)—with Raz, Lili, Sasha, Milla, and Coach Oleander flying off to rescue Truman Zannotto, the Grand Head of the Psychonauts. Their mission takes them straight into the heart of the Rhombus of Ruin—a mysterious part of the ocean as deadly as two Bermuda Triangles back to back!
When the rescue party itself is kidnapped and held a prisoner in the Rhombus, Raz is immobilised and must use only his psychic powers to reunite his friends, reveal the identity of the kidnapper, and free Truman before the madness of the Rhombus consumes all their minds.
Review: Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin joins Raz and Lili and the whole Psychonauts crew on a brand new adventure that bridges the gap between Psychonauts 1 and Psychonauts 2. A sort of halfway game, which due to the large time frame that the two games have between them is mostly lost and forgotten by everyone. The good news is you really don’t need to have played the original game to make sense of this VR adventure.
If you enjoyed the art style of the original game you will love the look of this one. While generally cartoon in style there is also an odd sort of Nightmare before Christmas look to it with the two styles working perfectly to compliment each other. Played in a first-person point and click style it’s easy to get used to with very little to do other than following along with the storyline.
Once again I find myself looking at the current asking price and the amount of content you get here and as per usual value for money is not up to much. Having said that this game has great voice acting and a fun storyline that helps to make this a game that is highly enjoyable to play through (even if you will only do it the once). Overall I would say it is best to wait for a sale before grabbing this unless you are a massive fan of the original Psychonauts game. Yes, most people will enjoy it, but you won’t be enjoying it for nearly as long as I would have liked for the price.
