Description: Regaining consciousness you smell the damp. Opening your eyes you see the stone walls of the chamber flickering by the light of the fire; you stumble to your feet and kick a helmet clattering across the floor. Slowly the ache in your head begins to subside and you notice the beginnings of a passage. After a few steps, the darkness consumes you. Returning to the safety of the fire you see a LIDAR scanner on the floor – a trigger press results in a faint glow coming from inside the helmet. You put the helmet on, adjust the beam-width and proceed into the abyss….

Review: Scanner Sombre might be shorter than some meals I have had, but it is also unique and imaginative and I really feel I have to give it credit for that. The story goes you are in a cave, but you can’t see everything, you need to “paint” all the surfaces with your sonar gun in order to work out what they are. But it is sound which really carries this game. You don’t need to see the things you are walking on, you can hear them! This way it means graphically it can be basic, but still highly detailed at the same time. This is not going to be for everyone and yes it only lasts about 60-90 minutes, but I for one feel it is worth a go even at full-price.
