Review: The last time we reviewed Viral EX was on the Gear VR and we loved it. But now it comes to the Oculus Rift with full touch controller support. We have the same storyline about a computer virus affecting a sexy-sounding AI called E.V.E. and you need to eliminate that said virus by shooting at them. It starts simple enough with the robot viruses dancing around, taunting you to shoot at them, then things start to get a little harder.
You not only have to shoot them, but you also have to raise your shield to stop them shooting you, you have to hit move targets to move on through the level, there are bigger boss fights and even a severe lack of ammo on top of it all! …Well, that is a lack of ammo if you couldn’t hit a barn door with a tractor like me. There are lots of levels and a surprising amount of game modes given the lack of multiplayer options.
From the way it looks to the way it feels to play, you can tell this has been made for the love of VR and made by people who love their video game classic shooters. Sure the graphics look a little basic on paper, but you will soon forget about the low polygon count and see the level of detail that has gone into the enemies, their lives and their deaths are often the sources of much amusement. This game was fun on the Gear VR, but now with the touch support, it feels strangely more serious and grown-up. But yet…it still keeps it’s fun and that is what makes this game such a joy to play.
