Review: At its core, ‘YUKI’ is a pretty good Shoot ‘Em Up in which you start off in an anime-themed bedroom, open a box and then it is all go from there. The actual 3D model of Yuki is really good, especially when it flies out of the box at the start. But then it is a little motionless as you play the game. You play with Yuki in your right hand and a cat bot thing in your left hand and you control them by moving them about while firing at anything that moves. To be fair it is indeed the “bullet-hell” the game says it is, but that is also part of what makes the game so frustrating to play.

There is no learning curve with this game, you are chucked into the deep end with no build-up whatsoever and you will get frustrated quite quickly. The good news is there are only 8 levels to play and they are fairly short. For me, it was the fact that this style of game would be just as good if played on a Gear VR or 3DOF headset because there is that little VR movement needed (just a lot of hand waving). For me £15.49 is just a bit too much. It does have a touch of polish and class here, but it is nothing you haven’t seen in VR since the days of Google cardboard. If you love anime you might like this more than me, but I suggest you wait for a sale before trying it out.
