Rodin (Oculus Rift)

Intro: Rodin is an interactive platform that allows you to create immersive virtual reality experiences within your web browser. The experiences can be deployed to a wide variety of devices including many android phones. This application enables you to browse through available experiences as well as your own projects.

Review: Have you made a 3D VR experience and would love to push it across all the current VR systems and app markets like Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC, Vive, Google Daydream, Apple iOS Store and even Google Play store? Rodin is an interactive program that allows you to do just that. The promise with this app is that if you know Javascript you are all set to launch a VR experience. Rodin offers an online environment platform where you can develop in JavaScript and use its extensive library to deliver your app to any of the VR systems. Why is this handy? Becuase different VR systems used different code so putting it into Rodin means it will save any budding developer loads of time, money and effort. Not only that, you also get access to a small, but impressive library of modules created by members of the Rodin community and third-party vendors.

Verdict: This idea of Rodin is to give people the chance to see their VR creations in VR, before launching an app that might fail. Of course being played out in VR also means they can get an appreciation of the scale of things as well. This app is only as good as the way it is used and I am sure someone out there will have a great use for it. But your average Joe like myself is not going to get any entertainment or use from it. Still, a good use of VR that will come in handy…for someone.
