Review: From the very first Tekken game to this new VR incarnation they call “Tekken 7”. I have played them all and seen the Tekken series go from good, to bad, then back to good again (Tekken Revolution was the worst of them all). So is Tekken 7 any good? While it might seem similar to other 3D Fighters like DOA and Virtua Fighter, Tekken 7 is all about being the master of the game space as well as the moves set. Some of the fighters grapple up close and some far away. Knowing who is best with the space your opponent is giving you is the key to winning. Given just a single inch a skilled player can knock out a string of attacks which will often lead to a very quick defeat.

But don’t be confused. Tekken 7’s fighting style is not as difficult to get into as it sounds or indeed looks. With its intuitive control scheme that assigns one button to each limb, you can easily learn how to attack and retaliate. They say practice makes perfect and never has that been truer than with Tekken 7’s characters. This, of course, means the game is easy to learn and hard to master. While it does pay tribute to previous Tekken games there is also something for the hardcore Tekken fans with its new fighting style.

Tekken 7 is living proof that big game companies will lose out in the VR software steaks because they just don’t know what to do with it or how to implement their big-name generic titles to the new gaming style. As a game played on a normal screen Tekken 7 is awesome and easy a game I would recommend getting. With so many personalities and different fighting styles, they have a great mix that Namco has perfected over a number of years.

But looking at the VR aspect separately, this game is an epic fail and could have been made better by a single person who understands VR in their bedroom. Get this game to play it on the TV, but if you are getting it for the VR element I suggest you avoid it like the plague. In fact, it’s so bad I have no idea why they even bothered trying to implement it in the first place!
