Description: World War Toons BETA does first-person shooters like you’ve never seen: WWII action plus a boatload of wackiness, totally free-to-play and designed for VR. It’s Axis vs. Allies, sharks vs. yetis, and tanks leaping through the air! Throw on a VR headset to fly across the map and jump into the action! And if you’re not there yet, no sweat – we’re fully playable on your non-VR flat screens, too. World War Toons is headed your way! Toon in.

Review: World War Toons is the cartoon equivalent of Call of Duty, only crazier and full of weird and wonderful things. You start off with a pretty cool menu hosted in a plane that is flying along, giving you a feeling that you are going into battle. With this BETA you really only have an online quick match and Playground option, be warned the online multiplayer is pretty buggy and it will take quite a while to get a match started. There are lots of in-app-purchases to make, hence the reason the game is free. That might well change before the game is fully launched, but for now, that is the case.

There are four classes of fighter to choose from. A Sniper, Machine Gun, Pistol and Rocket Launcher, each one has it’s own merits and using the earned in-game credit or making a purchase, you can personalise each fighter. Once the match starts it is pretty much a free-for-all. What you might find annoying here is the dying cutscene, that you will see an awful lot of in the early games. Each time having to pick a glass of soldier again and solve a mini-puzzle of sorts. You will spend more timing doing that than actually playing the game. The good news is it has all the right ingredients to make a great online multiplayer shoot’em up. It even has all the classic game modes like deathmatch, capture the flag, as well as some very funny powerups to collect one with is the ability to make it rain pianos! But at the moment it still needs more time in the development oven.oven.

World War Toons is an often confusing, but fun game to play, but sadly not in VR. If it’s not the motion that will finish you off, it is the fact that it doesn’t really help. You will do far better playing this game on the usual TV screen. At the end of the day, this game is still in Beta and is sure to become better as time goes on. But at the moment it is best avoided unless you really want to see it running in VR.
