Review: With a social media giant owning Oculus and various other social media apps and games trying to get in on the act, do we really need yet another social media app? BeanVR seems to think so and brings it’s cute Chinese social app to the Oculus Rift. You can hang out with friends, give each other gifts, or hang out in a purpose-built room and talk about the things you love.
You can sign up for a “BeanVR” account, but you can also go into it via a visitors pass. Using the Oculus Touch controllers you can be surprisingly social without any voice, but you can use the microphone if you feel like chatting. With its cartoon-style graphics and all the fun things to see and do, this is a welcoming social app that makes you feel right at home the moment you log in.
While there is nothing especially wrong with Beanvr, it is very quiet online at the moment. While this might change in the future, for now, it is far too empty to be a social network. Besides, the Chinese style and text language might be best suited to the Chinees market. But I did enjoy what little I got to see and do of it.
