The FOO Show
Intro: Every week, starting this summer, Will Smith and the FOO crew will chat with interesting people from the world of games, virtual reality, film, television, and more in an interactive, 3D-rendered, virtual reality talk show. This week’s episode features Firewatch. You can explore the tower! The FOO Show is just our first program. In the next year, we’ll introduce many new shows.
Review: Talk shows have gone from radio to TV, to YouTube and now you can watch a chat show in virtual reality! The idea is you can feel part of the talk, not just part of an audience member, but actual sat around with Will and his guests as they chat. It doesn’t feel so much a chat show, rather friends all sat around talking video games and having a laugh.
Will Smith (Not the MIB star) has a natural talent to make anyone feel at home and the chat flows nicely. In the future, they plan to talk about more VR games and be able to take you inside of them to really show that they look like. Being able to walk around the show hosts is one that gives you that feeling of immersion, the feeling of really being part of it.
Verdict: While I do have to give credit to the talented Will and his team for coming up with the idea, I feel that they have wasted their time and ours. Sure, in the future this might well be the future of chat shows. But for now the animation was too crappy and the 3D renditions of the real people talking just looked like they were from the 80’s VR world. The idea is good and one day it will work. But that day is not now.
